PRIDE SOUTH FLORIDA ANNOUNCES
2010 GRANT AWARDS
 

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – June 6, 2010

Even though other PRIDE events have been limited or completely cancelled due to the poor economy; thru the support of our wonderful sponsors, and dedication of our selfless volunteers and board members, Pride South Florida wishes to announce the success of PRIDEFEST 2010, “Celebrating You.

While attendance, and revenue, was lower than expected, PSF continues the tradition of giving back to the community organizations that support your needs. 

 Fourteen organizations requested funding for a variety of projects for 2010.  PSF Grants will be awarded to the following Broward Non-Profit organizations for their service and projects enhancing the lives of Broward’s LGBT population.

 Pride South Florida is delighted to Celebrate:

 1. Red Hispana Florida $1000- A safe place where LGBT and straight can view films on LGBT issues; acceptance and understanding, self worth or HIV issues and bridge the acceptance gap between the communities. 

2. South Florida Musical Guild-Pride Wind Ensemble $1000- Support the fall concert entitled “Heavy Classics ll.” 

3. South Florida Gay Men’s Chorus $500- Assist with production costs to present 3 major concerts for the coming year. 

4. KP Productions $1000- Provide quality entertainment to seniors suffering with debilitating illnesses that reside in assisted or day care facilities and are physically unable to travel to attend performances outside the facility. 

5. Women in Network (WIN) $1000- Continue to provide quality monthly programming for members and to increase programs to include full LGBT participation. 

6. Arts United $1000- To support “Art Explosion 11.”  Two Weeks of art, film, music, theatre, literature, comedy, and cabaret by LGBT talent thru South Florida. 

7. Transgender Equality Rights Initiatives (TERI) $1000-To serve and give a voice to the most underserved community under the LGBT umbrella.  To educate elected officials and the general public, and change human rights legislation. To provide programs and opportunities for the transgender community.  To serve as a coalition network of local organizations.  

8. Stonewall Library and Archives $1000- To support production and distribution of the stonewall exhibition “Where the Gays Are: Fifty years in Fort Lauderdale.” 

9. Names Project (AIDS Memorial Quilt) $1000-To recognize the enormity of the AIDS crisis thru community education and awareness. 

10. Lambda Men’s Brotherhood $500-Creation of a website and educational materials to build awareness/education between the leather community and the LGBT and straight communities.

Pride South Florida is an all volunteer non-profit organization, which produces the annual PRIDEFEST, a celebration and tribute to the LGBT community.  Proceeds from PRIDEFEST serve as the primary income producer for various grant programs and public benefit opportunities bestowed throughout the year.

2009 Grant Recipients

1- Red Hispana Florida – $1,500 - To preserve LGBT pre-AIDS era films which also serve as documentary of our lifestyles.

2- Tuesday's Angels - $2,500 – To provide emergency assistance in the form of eyeglasses to financially needy people with HIV/AIDS.

3- KP Productions - $2,500 – To continue the outreach program providing live musical entertainment to the LGBT community and seniors in our community.

4- Arts United - $2,500 – Sponsorship for Art Explosion 2010.

5- The Names Project South Florida (The Aids Memorial Quilt) - $2,500 – To preserve, care, and use the AIDS Memorial Quilt to foster healing, heighten awareness, and inspire in the struggle against HIV and AIDS.

6- Transgender Equality Rights Initiatives (TERI) - $2,500 – To provide educational, social support and outreach.

7- Sunshine Cathedral /MCC - $2,500 – to purchase follow spotlights for use at community concerts and events held at Sunshine Cathedral.

8- South Florida Musical Guild Inc. - $2,500 - To support the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble Fall Concert entitled “Incantations”.

9- Church of The Holy Spirit Song - $2,500 – To fund the COHSS food pantry.

10- Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus - $2,500 – To assist with four concert series during the upcoming season.

 

2008 Grant Recipients


Paladin Athletic Organization  -  $2,500
Purpose: To provide, educational, social and civic services to the LGBT community through athletic and informational endeavors.

Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus -   $2,500
Purpose: Sponsorship for season concerts.

Names Project South Florida - $2,500.
Purpose: To Continue providing community displays and workshops of the AIDS Memorial Quilt for the purpose of HIV/AIDS education, awareness, and remembrance in our community.

Flamingo Freedom Band - $2,500
Purpose: To support the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble Fall Concert entitled “Song and Dance” to take place at the Broward Performing Arts Center.

Arts United - $2,500
Purpose: Funding for ArtExplosion 2009

Tuesday’s Angels - $2,500
Purpose: To provide emergency assistance in the form of eyeglasses to financially needy people with HIV/AIDS.

Stonewall Library - $2,500
Purpose: To support the “Out of the Shadows” exhibition at the Broward County main Library.

The Povorello Center - $2,500
Purpose: To provide accurate and sensitive nutritional information and boxes of food to HIV+ LGBT persons in Broward County.

Transgender Equality Rights Initiatives (TERI)  - $2,500
Purpose: For educational, social support and outreach.

SunServe - $2,500
Purpose: To develop, and implement programs and services designed by and for the Lesbian, Bisexual, and transgender community through SunServe’s “Women 4 Women” program.

The Pet Project - $2,500
Purpose: To allow people who are terminally ill or permanently disabled to keep and care for their companion animals when the financial hardships inevitably arrive after the loss of ones ability to work.

American Veteran’s for Equal Rights (AVER)  - $2,500
Purpose: To provide funding for the 2009 AVER national Convention.

 Nova Southeastern University Gay and Lesbian Medical Association - $2,500
Purpose: To address the social stigmatization and subsequent health barriers to the LGBT population in the health setting.

KP Productions  - $2,500
Purpose: To continue the outreach program providing live musical entertainment to the LGBT community and seniors in our community.

Southeastern Regional Gay Men’s Health Summit  - $2,430
Purpose: To provide registration scholarships to 18 individuals from Broward and Miami-Dade counties to the health summit.
